In 2023, the University of Illinois received The Winning Streak Award in the International Freezer Challenge. This year marked our greatest energy savings to date, crushing our previous record by nearly 125% and leading to a feature in Lab Manager Magazine!

Our top labs were awarded with gift certificates to high-end dining establishments in the Champaign-Urbana area, as well as Certificates in Leadership in Sustainable Lab Practices.

In total, 94 laboratories participated, leading to our highest level of participation to date. The efforts of these labs saved 1315 kWh per day, enough energy to power 42.9 standard U.S. homes for a year!
